The Director of General Assistance is an appointed position, and its offices are located at the County Office Building.
About General Assistance
County General Assistance shall be provided to residents of the county as mandated in the Code of Iowa, Chapter 252.25. The purpose and policy of such provisions of relief, where appropriate, is to direct the applicant in removing barriers to self-sufficiency and economic self-support to prevent, reduce, or eliminate dependency. The Director is responsible for the management and day to day decision making in accordance with the Clayton County General Assistance Ordinance. Recipients must be under certain income guidelines and resource limitations. Services are provided in payment for such items as rent, food, utilities, medical assistance.
